From the producer:We began working with Touriga Nacional from the Luchsinger Vineyard in 2010 and have enjoyed learning about the personality of this compelling variety over the years. In the spirit of exploration in 2016 we were able to secure a small amount of beautiful Tempranillo grapes that are planted adjacent to our Touriga at this high elevation Lake County site. Tempranillo brings a distinct earthy and spicy character to the wine and we are very happy with our first experience working with this variety. In 2014 we realized we needed more Touriga and planted another acre in the gravelly, volcanic soils with the Luchsingers, then with the help of our good friend Tegan Passalacqua of Turley Vineyards and Sandlands, we were introduced to the St. Amant vineyard in the Jackson Valley of Amador county in the Sierra Foothills. The soils here are decomposed granite and the vineyard is farmed organically under the watchful eye of Stuart Spencer. The fruit from this remote site adds fantastic acidity and vibrant fruit to the blend. Finally, we picked a tiny amount of Grenache from the Cobblestone Vineyard in the Russian River Valley near Chalk Hill to round out the wine with additional bright fruit character and structure. All three of these sites were harvested and fermented separately in stainless steel with native yeast. The final blend was composed in early December and we are thrilled with the resulting wine.
