In the development of his ArteNom line of artisanal tequilas, Jake Lustig is driven by the desire to highlight, and exploit, the variations in terroir and distillation technique that characterize the different tequila producing regions within the state of Jalisco. So rather than a particular tequila brand's Blanco, Reposado, and AƱejo offerings being simply the same juice with increasing barrel age, each ArteNom release is created at a different distillery, and specifically tailored to the soil, climate, and altitude where its agave is cultivated. The ArteNOM 1414 Reposado is produced at the El Ranchito Distillery in Arandas, Jalisco, elevation 6709 feet. As with all the ArteNOM tequilas, agave is estate grown. Master Distiller Sergio Vivanco employs the proprietary yeast strain that is cultivated from the pollen discharged by the grove of citrus trees planted by his grandfather around the agave field. The nose is lean at first, not too assertive or showy. Eventually one starts picking up honey, vanilla, even a delicate floral note, with a savory thread in the background, like brown mustard, coriander. In the mouth,a silky texture, with honey for days, cinnamon, turning savory on the finish, hints of brine, cigar leaf and black pepper. A sipper to contemplate slowly, like its big brother 1146 anejo. "An ArteNOM Tequila is not a white label product contracted to a distillery. It is the celebration of the art of a specific distiller. No guidelines, no requirements. Jake Lustig simply wants to encapsulate the know-how, tradition and craft of the distillers he intimately thinks are the best at their craft. The distiller is asked to make the best expression of tequila he/she can that will show the world what his/her NOM is all about." 40% abv.
